Herbal Solutions for Menstrual Pain
As any woman can tell you, menstrual pain can be debilitating. Usually, women reach for an over-the-counter remedy, or worse, they’re left to use prescription medication. Many women these days are turning to organic home remedies to help ease the suffering and to get them to bounce back from the pain and fatigue associated with menstruating.
A word of caution before we move forward
If you are experiencing extreme pain or heavier flow than normal during your period, it’s best that you visit your doctor. You shouldn’t take any of these herbal solutions if you find yourself in a position where your health might be in danger. Sure, these solutions will help ease your pain, but, and this is a big but, you need to take it seriously.
It’s natural to feel varying levels of discomfort during your period. What isn’t natural is if you are doubled over in pain or are bleeding to the point where your health is in jeopardy. If you find yourself in these situations, don’t rely on an article; get yourself to a doctor immediately. Your reproductive health is nothing to fool around with.
Put herbs to work on the problem
We’re talking about ginger, turmeric, and chamomile. All three of those are great for women on their periods. The best thing about chamomile is that not only can it help ease your suffering, but it can calm you down really well. We all know that during that time of the month, women need all the calming help they can get.
You can make teas with these herbs or you can add them to your cooking. Something like ginger can be eaten fresh as well for an extra kick of potency. If you already eat these herbs that’s great, because incorporating them in your diet will be easier.
Add chaste tree berry and evening primrose oil to your diet for their hormonal properties. They will help keep your hormones in balance, even though your body is going through everything under the sun right now. If your hormones are in check, you’ll feel much better, and the stress of having your period will be much less.
Eat the right foods for the best results
Herbs are great, but the foundation of your health is what you eat. During these times, eat nutrient-dense foods like leafy greens, berries, and fatty fish. You want to eat as healthy as you can, and fish is a great choice during these times. The fatty fish provides all the things that your body is losing when you’re bleeding heavily.
It’s natural that you’re going to want to eat all kinds of unhealthy food like chocolate and chips. You know you’re going to reach for those foods; however, add three big healthy foods to the mix for the best possible results. The leafy greens make great salads, and the berries are delicious on their own. Just make sure that you wash your fresh produce really well to make sure there’s nothing on them that will make you sick.
Your monthly friend doesn’t have to be an enemy
Your period will keep visiting you until you either become pregnant or go through menopause. It’s not a surprise and it’s not the end of the world. It just means you need a little TLC during those times and you’ve got to give your body a fighting chance. The way you do that is by taking care of yourself and consuming most, if not all of the things listed above.
